WELCOME TO TANZANIA - Safaris Starting From $3,195 p/p

Value Travel & Tours create journeys to help you break free of devices and enjoy a digital detox

Tanzania is a true wilderness.

Over a quarter of this magnificent country is dedicated to incredibly wild and beautiful national parks and reserves – it is East Africa at its best.

Tanzania is a land of superlatives: the deepest, the highest, the largest, and the oldest. Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, Serengeti and

Loliondo – which make up the famed “Northern Circuit” – tempt you with a million-strong Wildebeest migration, a huge volcanic caldera, a flamingo-rimmed lake, rhino, buffalo, black-maned tree-climbing lions and elephant bathing in rivers. Experience the Ngorongoro Crater, a unique ecosystem isolated from the rolling savannahs that surround it.

The Serengeti plains alone support over 3 million animals whilst the Ngorongoro Crater hosts the greatest concentration of large mammals in Africa on the floor of an extinct volcano; a natural refuge for big game. Parks such as the Ruaha and Selous Reserve are huge and relatively untouched. The incredible wilderness of the Miombo woodlands in Southern Tanzania offers dramatically changing scenery and wildlife. And the exotic lure of the islands; Pemba and Zanzibar, are incredible ‘getaway’ destinations.

Lying between Lake Natron and Lake Eyasi the Olduvai Gorge is one of East Africa’s most amazing archaeological hotspots, where Drs. Louis and Mary Leakey discovered Homo Habilis (Handy Man); a 1.8 million year old fossil, whose bones were discovered in the wall of the Gorge. Early hominid footprints, estimated to be 3.5 million years old, were discovered at Laetoli by Dr Mary Leakey here in 1979.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Detailed day-by-day Itinerary

DAY 1 – FRIDAY

NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA (D)

You depart from Arusha after lunch this afternoon bound for the world-famous Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Ngorongoro Crater. The area features rolling plains, lakes, craters, mountains and dormant

volcanoes. Here, you enjoy a delectable palate of scenic bliss - a delight for photographers.

You journey up the side of the vast Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site, which is one of the largest volcanic craters in the world (almost 13 miles wide) and arrive at the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge in time

for sundowner cocktails overlooking one of the finest views in the world.

Spend this evening preparing yourself mentally for a week’s worth of well-deserved digital detoxing in pristine African bushveld where you’ll connect personally with Africa’s mighty Animal Kingdom.

The remainder of your day is at leisure.

DISTANCE – Approx. 118 Miles

TIME – Approx. 4-hours

NGORONGORO SERENA SAFARI LODGE

At the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, you'll find seventy-five rock-built rooms with private balconies, each with a panoramic view. Extensive viewing terraces afford gorgeous views into the Ngorongoro Crater and beyond while the rock built central dining room boasts a central fire place around which you can snuggle during the evening hours.

Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style and feature a wide range of international choices. In typical safari style, a full English breakfast as well as European options are offered while lunch menus include meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options. Table d’hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, soup, entrée, pudding, cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee. Vegetarian options are always available. The majority of meat and dairy products, as well as our fruits and vegetables, are sourced from local communities and the restaurant caters to any special dietary requirements guests may have.

Standard Rooms feature elegant interior spaces infused with locally inspired décor and private stone balconies overlooking the Crater. while the stunning setting on the rim of the ancient Ngorongoro Crater provides a gateway to unforgettable adventures and excursions. Enjoy a wide range of activities, from game drives on the Crater plains (included in the price ) to guided nature walks, bush dining experiences, visits to Maasai villages and cattle markets, and much more.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY

NGORONGORO CRATER (B/L/D)

After an early breakfast, you descend into the "Eighth Wonder of the World", the Ngorongoro Crater, a unique biosphere that has remained unchanged since the dawn of time. The crater which is the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world is unquestionably the jewel in Ngorongoro's crown.

Approximately 25,000 large animals, mostly ungulates (odd toed animals) live in the crater. The larger of the mammals include the rare black rhinoceros, African or Cape Buffalo, and hippos. You'll enjoy your fill of blue wildebeest, Grant's Zebra, eland, and Grant's and Thomson's gazelles and waterbuck who congregate mainly near the Lerai Forest.  Given the 'one-road-in-one-road-out' concept to get into and out of the crater, our guests generally enjoy a picnic lunch at Lake Magadi on the crater floor.

Expect a morning safari game viewing drive followed by lunch at the lake and then an afternoon safari game viewing drive in the sought after Ngorongoro Crater.

Back at your safari lodge, enjoy sundown cocktails and the sweeping views before a scrumptious dinner and an early night.

SAFARI VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

We prefer Minivan Safari Vehicles for our safaris. They’re great for traveling long distances to areas where 4X4 is not necessary. Additionally, while they’re fitted to accommodate nine (9) passengers, we always only allocate a maximum of six (6) passengers per vehicle. This way, everyone automatically gets a window seat and access to the roof hatch which pops up for a 360° panoramic view of the African bushveld and the Animal Kingdom.

DAY 3 – SUNDAY

OLDUVAI GORGE AND SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (B/L/D)

Breakfast is generally taken early in east Africa to enable you to get on the road as early as possible to avoid traveling in the mid day heat. Early mornings are perfect for both safari game viewing drives as well as overland transfers.

You're heading north-west today, through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area via the Olduvai Gorge to the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti is derived from the Maasai language, Maa; and specifically, "Serengit" which means "Endless Plains". Soon, you'll understand why.

The Serengeti has it all – abundant wildlife and superb action and adventure – and all of this in a setting of sunburnt and lush plains, backdropped by towering mountains.

En route together with your local English-speaking driver/guide, you stop for a visit at Olduvai Gorge, a steep ravine in the Great Rift Valley, which is one of the most important human fossil sites in the world. Remains of 60 human ancestral species have been found here and the development of stone tools was established here. Finds date as far back as 2.1 million years.

The pace slows down as you enter the Serengeti National Park at Naabi Hill Gate and you begin our safari game viewing drive immediately en route to your luxury game lodge.

DISTANCE – Approx. 98 Miles

TIME – Approx. 3 ½-hours

SERENGETI SERENA SAFARI LODGE

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is an award-winning safari lodge in one of the most beautiful settings in Tanzania. Seamlessly blended high into an acacia-lined ridge, the African-style lodge and infinity pool offer panoramic views across the Serengeti’s vast, endless grasslands, where lions and cheetahs stalk their prey and massive migrating wildebeest herds darken the landscape in a relentless search for fresh grazing grounds.

Here in this location near the Grumeti River in the heart of Serengeti National Park abundant opportunities for exhilarating adventures are available. Enjoy a diverse array of excursions, from game drives (included in the price) and balloon safaris to bush dining experiences and guided nature walks.

Breakfast and lunch are presented in buffet-style and feature a wide range of international choices. In typical safari style, a full English breakfast is offered as well as European options while our lunch menus will typically include meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian options. Table d'hôte dinner menus feature a salad buffet, soup, entrée, pudding, cheese and biscuits as well as tea or coffee. Vegetarian options are always available. In supporting local enterprise, the majority of meat and dairy products, as well as our fruits and vegetables, are sourced from the communities that surround the reserve.

OPTIONAL SIGHTSEEING

EARLY MORNING BALLOON FLIGHT OVER THE SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK ($495 p/p – 3-hours)

A hot air balloon flight is one of the most amazing ways to experience the Serengeti. The hot air balloon safaris are ideally suited at the Serengeti in the open, treeless plains allowing many of the animals to be seen from the air and viewed from an altitude of several thousand feet. The savannah scenery is breath-taking. Balloon safaris take off just before dawn so that you are high above the plains in time for sunrise. Flights last for approximately one-hour drifting wherever the air current takes you. Once back on terra firma, the flight is celebrated with a glass of champagne and a breakfast in the bush.

DAY 4 - MONDAY

SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (B/L/D)

Serengeti National Park is known for its massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. Seeking new pasture, the herds move north toward Kenya from their breeding grounds in the grassy southern plains. Many cross the marshy western corridor’s crocodile-infested Grumeti River while others veer northeast to the Lobo Hills, home to black eagles. Rare Black rhinos inhabit the granite outcrops of the Moru Kopjes.

In this enchanting wonderland of the Animal Kingdom, you spend all day on safari .

You'll enjoy an early breakfast before heading out on safari in search of the 'Big 5' and so much more. Lunch is enjoyed back at the lodge and then off you go again enjoying your safari experience until the sun sets.

Expect this to be an enormously enjoyable and exciting day - everyone always does - and they always come back and tell us about it (and of course, show us their photos).

DAY 5 - TUESDAY

LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK (B/L/D)

The little park that packs a punch is today's destination.

DISTANCE – Approx. 132 Miles

TIME – Approx.  4 ¼-hours
